Butler McCook Desk and Bookcase repaired leg

Structural Conservation

The first step in examining an object is assessing its structural integrity, with emphasis on preserving the original materials. Often the wood chosen for repairs is critical to maintain the integrity of an antique. We maintain a large supply of period and modern exotic hardwoods and veneers, and have access to international suppliers of saw cut veneers to insure a proper match in both grain, color, and figure.

Services include stabilization, preservation and restoration of the following:

  • Veneer and inlay
  • Marquetry
  • Carving
  • Turned elements
  • Joinery
  • Wood fumigation and insect eradication
  • Upholstery and non-intrusive upholstery conservation

Treatment of non –wood materials including:

  • Hardware
  • Locks and keys
  • Leather desk tops and screens
  • Lacquer objects
  • Mirror plates
  • Caning, rush, splint, and taped seats
  • Bone, ivory, horn, mother-of-pearl, pewter, and brass
